Not much is actually known about T-Mobile's upcoming Project Black, but quite a bit is speculated. Here's the nuts and bolts on the secret marketing scheme the company is hoping will give them a boost past the fourth best mobile carrier in the nation.
TMO is currently dead last in the mobile world, right behind Sprint. They have plans to move past Sprint and they call these plans Project Black. When it was first leaked out people speculated that it was some sort of rollout of new phones, one of which is the much anticipated BlackBerry Onyx 9700, (pictured at left) but as time went on, a few more things were leaked and/or speculated.
Now all the top leading tech sites, such as Gizmodo, Boy Genius Report, and TMO News, seem to believe that Project Black will include a few phones being released, a huge upgrade in its 3G service, and even a completely unlimited plan for $50. Completely unlimited as in voice, SMS, MMS, and even data. However, it's not really certain that if the unlimited plan is true, if it will apply to data used on BlackBerry phones. The bump in 3G service is supposedly somewhere around the area of 21Mbps in terms of speed, which is enought to make a couple other networks get a chill down their spine.
Of course, most of this is still just speculation, even though it seems to be coming from reliable sources. Early today, TMO News recieved the promotional poster above that seems to address Project Black. You can see that the poster talks about three main points; Coverage, price, and handsets. If the ruomors have any merit to them, the poster above seems to add a little fuel to the fire.
The official announcement is set to be made either this upcoming Sunday or next Sunday. Either way, we'll know soon enough what T-Mobile has up it's sleeve.
